Learn the art of crafting an all natural lime water tank directly under the guidance of a highly skilled Master Artisan.
Lime water tanks have been used in India for thousands of years. Under every house in the old city of Ahmedabad you will find one, providing a pure source of drinking water for the inhabitants. In Rajasthan all those step wells and Baodi’s are constructed with lime.
Lime is a natural purifier. Switching to a lime water tank will free you from the exposure to toxic chemicals that may be leaching into your water currently held in plastic tanks.
As this is an intensive workshop conducted over a two day period, we will be constructing a small water tank demonstrating the techniques. This will not be a full sized water tank.
***PLEASE NOTE THIS WORKSHOP MUST BE TAKEN IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LIME PLASTERS WORKSHOP BEING HELD FROM THE 27TH OF FEBRUARY TO THE 2ND OF MARCH - DURING WHICH YOU WILL LEARN THE PLASTER TECHNIQUES NECESSARY TO FINISH THE TANK.
*** IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED OUR RAJASTHANI LIME PLASTER WORKSHOP YOU MAY ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP ALONE.
We will be constructing this miniature water tank at a private haveli in Mandawa. A picturesque town located in the Shekawati region of Rajasthan. Famous for the elaborate homes of wealthy merchants (haveli's) ornately embellished with frescoes, finely carved timber work and luxurious lime plasters.
We love conducting these workshops in the rich cultural landscape of the Shekawati region. Home to the techniques we will be teaching. This a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and heritage of Rajasthan whilst learning the secret techniques and intelligence behind the construction of these stuning homes.
