Sgraffito is a technique that involves the scratching of surface coatings - clay slip or glazes in pottery or plasters in mural work - to reveal constrasting layers beneath, resulting in artistic patterns and designs.  Historically Sgraffito murals have graced the facades of Grand Pallaces in Italy. However in recent times it has become popular as a modern artistic medium for murals. Kimberly Barcenas has adapted the tecnique with her own unique style infgluenced by Mexican mural traditions. Join us in Spiti Valley for a special, intensive workshop where she will be teaching numerous techniques for creating contmeporary murals from lime plaster and natural pigments.
